RE-UPdate #23: Beauty ends in rugby fever

It’s mid September, and RE-UP has been as busy as the clouds have been raining (read: very). From our Monday meeting – where Ania delivered a presentation on digital fashion and brands – to Friday evening, where we’ve been wrapping up the week’s tasks, it’s been non-stop work (and joy, we’re RE-UP of course!).

The RE-UPdate is here to give you a quick run-down of what’s been happening, and what have we been up to?

As per usual, the designers have been working on some great projects, particularly with children’s shoe brand BOPY and some rebranding work for them. Additionally, RE-UP has been travelling beyond the office and into the big wide world: Tuesday saw Efrem and Nuveen making their way to a renovated warehouse for a behind the scenes photoshoot for a client. Fancy stuff!

Moving forwards to Thursday, we had a super intense, super valuable workshop with our favourite cosmetics client, defining a new reporting structure on an EMEA level as well as exploring visuals to inform a shooting with our photographer.

We also finished our first contest with OUIBUS and went into launch another one straight away in line with a fun filled French feeling Friday with the brand at VCS. The event looked great; our banners and floor stickers designed by Melanie showing off the new branding really well.

Have you seen the fun they had?

But what about the outside world? Well….

  • Facebook has introduced a dislike button! Mark Zuckerberg claims that “not every moment is a good moment… so I do think it’s important to give people more options than just like. Hopefully we’ll deliver something that meets the needs of our community.” Many people are skeptical of its usage, despite the constant demand since the ‘like’ button was introduced, as it’s thought that it will be difficult to communicate true empathy via one click. However, it will be interesting to see how successful it is nonetheless – hopefully communicating care, rather than – well, dislike.
  • Fashion Week has kicked off in New York and London – and brands are getting more and more tech savvy by using Periscope to share live fashion action! Live streaming has become a super-easy way to communicate, and the move into high-fashion means brands increase their outreach and fan engagement, whilst consumers get to see live content. It’s a win-win in social media and tech strategy!
  • According to Wired, selfies are being replaced by ‘dronies’. What’s that, you ask? Good question! It’s the next tech level of narcissism: own a drone, and you’re in. This illustrator has been using hers to take selfies from afar – is it a new technology trend, a passing fad, or is the dronie here to stay as a sign of modern-day life? Decide for yourself!

That’s all for the RE-UPdate this week – we’re off to enjoy the Rugby World Cup! Go England! Or should we say, Go France! Maybe just ‘Go Rugby!’ is the best choice…
