RE-UPdate #5: “You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine”

Brrrrrrr, February has dawned. We’ve had the lightest dusting of snow in London. Everyone went a bit crazy for it (as usual). We tried to keep warm with our little fan heaters, and all the while we’ve been churning out some exciting stuff for our foodie client, getting our mind into cosmetics world with L’Oréal and have even found time to interview a jelly lover and illustration extraordinaire Alice Dufay for the Méduse blog.

We’ve also met one of the most amazing people in the beauty & cosmetic industry last Thursday. Let us tell you one thing: an agency is as good as their client. And when this person is one of the top guns…this can lead to fireworks.

We’re without Daniel this week (lucky thing has gone skiing), but we’ve battled on without him and have just started working with a super cool herbal supplement brand, Eastern Botanicals. We’ve already begun the strategy and first editorial work and we’re waiting with baited breath for our herbal delivery ;p You just wait, we’ll be boasting strong hair and nails, radiant complexion and all the energy we need in a matter of days! Oh: in the United States of America of course!

We’re also shortlisted for an amazing brand. You won’t know ANYTHING. NDAs are NDAs you know.

Anyway, before we enjoy the benefits of Traditional Eastern Medicine, how about a look at our week?

The SuperBowl happened – and boy did brands seize the opportunity with both hands. Katy Perry’s half time show, complete with a mini performance from the legendary Missy Elliot was pretty cool (even if the shark did forget how to dance). With all the digital buzz that surrounded the event, we started thinking about just how brands must cater their content to even get noticed. 1sec timeline dwell time and over 28M tweets was challenge enough and results showed that a simple but effective CTA meant the tweet was more likely to get noticed and engage versus being ignored. Pretty easy when you put it like that.

Midweek creativity struck us when we saw that Casio had developed an amazing app, which makes musical composition easy to access for anyone. Perhaps we can start writing musical content with it? Anyone?

Finally – Laurent shared some thoughts for M&M Global on how social media has grown in the last 20 years, from a mere practice to a social vivarium.

“Social media is no longer this distant ‘additional’ territory that marketers need to enter, it is the hub where young brands can enter, join and grow.”

So, as this week draws to a close, what have you been noticing? Aside from the fact that smart phones batteries are severely affected by cold weather and suddenly lose charge, leaving you without means of Uber transport. Shock horror! Maybe this YotaPhone 2 is the answer…

Up, Up and Away to next week folks!
