RE-UPdate #12 – New horizons & champers

‘ello ‘ello. It’s that time again folks. A shorter week means Friday comes around a little quicker and we’re only just recovering from the General Election result. Oh social media, now even more than ever, you’re a sea of political opinions, rage, interview snippets out of context and witty infographics.

Everyone’s been talking about how this is the first social media dominated election and from the looks of our news feeds, we don’t think they’re far wrong. Perhaps there will be an article on that following soon… ;p

Mum’s the word – or is that Mumm? Either way, we’ve been celebrating with champagne because of a new pitch win this week and we couldn’t be more excited. More news on that soon, if you can bear to wait.

We’ve been tuned into the future of video apps Meerkat and Periscope, since our Content Strategist Zoë’s presentation on the two platforms going head to head. The recent MayPac boxing match brought to light copyright issues but also the extent to which content could be generated through the platforms to amplify live entertainment in a new and exciting way.

Mashable’s Seth Fiegerman wrote:

“In Periscope’s ongoing grapple with rival Meerkat, the boxing match handed Periscope enormous name recognition at a peak cultural moment and demonstrated the true potential for a shared viewing experience.”
